Not all bacteria is harmful. In fact, we want the “good” bacteria on surfaces as they fight against the harmful ones.  Which is why disinfectant wipes are more problematic then good.  These wipes eliminate both the good and bad bacteria, leaving the surface a breeding ground for new harmful bacteria.  This results in a surface actually more conducive to rapid colonization in a very limited time frame.

Each disinfection procedure leaves organic matter behind that serves as protein and carbohydrate sources, creating fuel to sustain the fast re-colonization of the surface. Disinfection also removes the normal beneficial bacteria that hold back pathogen growth through competitive exclusion. Using the energy resources created by disinfectants, pathogens can multiply from one to a population of one million cells within 8 hours.

While disinfection results in a fast reduction in the total number of micro-organisms, the effect is very short and unstable. The resistance of pathogens like MRSA to higher concentrations and frequencies of disinfectant/antibiotic applications has resulted in an increased risk to people and the environment from both the pathogens and the aggressive chemicals meant to kill them.

While we realize that the use of disinfectants can be counter productive and harmful, we do acknowledge that there are uses for using these types of cleaners. Places such as hospitals, daycares, medical clinics, doctors and dentist offices and other such facilities do require a stronger disinfectant to kill harmful pathogens such as MRSA, VRE, Clostridium difficile, E. coli, Salmonella sp., Streptococcus sp., and others.

Here as Kastle Klean we use a two stage approach in handling germ control.  First we use a germicidal cleaner which is a one-step disinfectant cleaner based on proprietary Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide technology to deliver fast, effective cleaning performance. Once the surface has been disinfected we then use our PIP Probiotic cleaner to put down a layer of good bacteria to protect the surface for up to 3 days.  It is imperative that cleaning companies get onboard with germ disinfection.  Cleaning companies can and are the first defense against viruses and bacteria control because they are the first on site to clean these facilities.  It only makes sense that we change the face of cleaning.  It is no longer just for appearances anymore.  We must clean for health first and if your cleaning company does not have a germ prevention program in place along with green cleaning standards then it is time to change companies   The health of your employees and you may be at stake.
